Most of you have no idea what this is related to. And most of it is an attempt to conjure up pre-pandemic me in one of my ever occurring cogsci experiments on myself (iykyk), but let me give you a rundown of what the what is happening here:
Back when I was living in DC out of undergrad, I started writing an email every week to my consulting work friends and scattered-across-government-orgs friend friends, called On a High Note. It was a cheeky reference to my trombone days and was meant to be a way to connect with people I didn't see often because my work days were in SCIFs. They were incredibly stream of consciousness on mostly not-work things I thought were interesting and would all sound unhinged if you hadn't had at least five irl conversations with me to calibrate. But they gained traction (bc of weirdness?) and ultimately grew to a 1000+ person distro and a website with an archive. Both of which are lost to the ether because not all of the internet is indelible marker and I was lazy.
I've been on a reflecting spree which led me to the loud conclusion that I need to put my brain/self out there. A genius, treasured mentor (my dad!) sent one of these bygone 'OAHNs' to me the other day and it seemed like a familiar way to do a now-unfamiliar practice.
Here are the rules: If you hate this, I genuinely see why (they are long and weird!!) and you should reply to this first one and say a cute lil' version of "love that for you but not for me." I cannot tell you how much I won't be offended by that, mostly bc I literally ran this for years, and it happened all the time, but also because I love that for you, back!
If you do like it, the old OAHN rules still apply, 1) feel free to forward to people who you think will like it and 2) send me stuff you think I'd like. The most beautiful thing of old OAHN was that it became a massive discussion about all the facets I didn't know of people I knew. Also, there will be typos. And, this one is obviously 2x normal length.
So y'all, On a High Note...
